Arte laguna fue de mis primeros intentos para ser seleccionado en algo después de salir de la escuela de arte en el 2014. Debo decir que no tuve mucho éxito sino hasta este tercer intento.
En las dos primeras oportunidades los trabajos que postulé les faltaba algo, no tenía la experiencia ni el oficio suficiente respecto a mi práctica artística. Esta vez fue diferente. Uno sabe cuando ha hecho algo bueno, algo que destaca sobre el resto de la producción de antes. Las obras que postulé fueron producto de estos dos últimos años de trabajo, donde varios factores confluyeron para dar un salto adelante respecto a mi obra; tuve que romper con varias creencias y desaprender cosas que se habían quedado de la escuela de arte y que ya no eran operativas en mi ejercicio profesional. Sinceramente no sé si alguna vez lo fueron.
Al final fui seleccionado. No sé hasta qué punto fue una sorpresa, porque cuando leí el correo no me sentí muy sorprendido; eso sí, me sentí feliz, porque desde hace dos años muchas cosas han comenzado a caer en su lugar.
Ser artista, a mi forma de entender, es como estar siempre en medio de la vida: una parte pública y otra privada, disciplina profesional y práctica lúdica, ver afuera y adentro, mostrarse y guardarse, expresiones profundamente personales que mostramos al mundo. Ese ha sido mi trabajo, es mi statement, mi obra es un equilibrio entre las tensiones del orden y caos que permean mi creatividad. Cuando logro ponerlas al servicio de mis objetivos, entran en una especie de armonía, un estado natural que se manifiesta en un trabajo bien hecho.
La selección en el concurso, planteo varios retos, como trasladar la obra; nunca uno de mis trabajos había ido tan lejos. Luego de sopesar varias opciones decidí que lo mejor era ir con la obra, a la aventura a una de las ciudades más famosas del mundo del arte: Venecia.
Hace once años, en 2013, había experimentado estar en Europa, fue en Ginebra, Suiza, como estudiante de intercambio: una de las mejores experiencias de mi vida. Pero a diferencia de esa ocasión, esta vez no estaría seis meses sino trece días. La verdad nunca pensé que estas fueran unas vacaciones, porque además de dejar la obra en Venecia para su montaje para la exposición, todavía tenía mucho trabajo que hacer relativo a mi quehacer artístico.
Un día después de mi llegada tuve que llevar la obra al Arsenale Nord, el lugar de la exposición. Para efectos prácticos y de presupuesto, me alojé en una ciudad vecina llamada Mestre, que está perfectamente conectada con Venecia. Así que el miércoles seis de noviembre, mi tarea fue llevar un paquete de un metro por un metro por el transporte público a su destino. Debo decir que, aunque el italiano es semejante al español, hay que poner atención a las palabras, y eso me faltó a mí. Al llegar a la plaza de roma, lugar donde se entra a Venecia, tomé el aquabus equivocado y me quedé al otro lado del lugar a donde tenía que ir, eso sí, justo en la famosa plaza de san marcos. Lo que siguió a continuación fue un performance de un poco más de una hora de mí llevando la obra por los recovecos e infinitos pasajes de Venecia. Aquí fue vital la ayuda de la tecnología que me permitió no sólo llegar, sino persistir en mi empresa hasta lograrlo.
El 16 de noviembre se llevó a cabo la inauguración. Fue un evento lleno de gente y de propuestas artísticas de todo tipo, acorde a la magnitud y naturaleza del evento. La verdad di varias vueltas de reconocimiento para contemplar las obras, obteniendo nueva información vez; la contemplación de cada obra es un asunto personal para mí, no importa si estoy rodeado de gente, es algo que me arrastra hacia su órbita, convirtiendo la experiencia en un diálogo entre dos.
Me alegró ver mi trabajo y saber que tenía un lugar entre sus iguales. No vi ninguna obra que, a mi criterio, no mereciera estar ahí. De entre más de 10,000 propuestas mi trabajo fue uno de los seleccionados. Aún hoy me cuesta trabajo creerlo. Sé que me esforcé en hacerlo lo mejor posible, en cada parte del proceso de producción intenté hacer una diferencia cualitativa. Desde hace dos años esa ha sido mi política como artista: cada proyecto es un parteaguas en tu carrera.
La exposición estuvo del 17 de noviembre al 8 de diciembre. Al final me ofrecieron dejar en consigna mi obra por dos años, para que pueda ser expuesta en más lugares; me gustó ese trato y, por lo pronto, se quedó en Italia.

Las casi dos semanas que estuve en Europa fueron intensas en muchas formas, tuve que resolver algunas cuestiones propias de los viajes, también fui a Ginebra a pasar unos días antes de la inauguración; para cuando terminó todo y regresé a México me sentía emocionalmente muy cansado. En general este año estuvo lleno de cambios y retos. A casi un mes de haber vivido eso, comienzo a tener una perspectiva de lo que he logrado.
Hace once años el Premio Arte Laguna representó una primera entrada al mundo del arte profesional; hoy se convirtió en un parteaguas que me señala que el rumbo que he tomado para mi carrera ha sido el correcto para mí.

Arte Laguna was one of my first attempts to be selected for something after leaving art school in 2014. I must say that I was not very successful until this third attempt.
On the first two occasions, the jobs I applied for were lacking something, I did not have the experience or the sufficient skill regarding my artistic practice. This time it was different. You know when you have done something good, something that stands out from the rest of the production before. The works I submitted were the product of these last two years of work, where several factors came together to take a leap forward in my work; I had to break with several beliefs and unlearn things that had remained from art school and that were no longer operative in my professional practice. Honestly, I don't know if they ever were.
In the end I was selected. I don't know to what extent it was a surprise, because when I read the email I didn't feel very surprised; I did feel happy, though, because for two years many things have begun to fall into place.
Being an artist, in my understanding, is like always being in the middle of life: a public and a private part, professional discipline and playful practice, seeing outside and inside, showing and keeping, deeply personal expressions that we show to the world. That has been my work, it is my statement, my work is a balance between the tensions of order and chaos that permeate my creativity. When I manage to put them at the service of my objectives, they enter into a kind of harmony, a natural state that manifests itself in a job well done.
The selection in the competition posed several challenges, such as transporting the work; never had one of my works gone so far. After weighing up several options, I decided that the best thing was to go with the work, on an adventure to one of the most famous cities in the art world: Venice.
Eleven years ago, in 2013, I had experienced being in Europe, it was in Geneva, Switzerland, as an exchange student: one of the best experiences of my life. But unlike that time, this time I would not be there for six months but thirteen days. The truth is I never thought that this would be a vacation, because in addition to leaving the work in Venice to be mounted for the exhibition, I still had a lot of work to do related to my artistic work.
One day after my arrival I had to take the work to the Arsenale Nord, the venue of the exhibition. For practical and budgetary purposes, I stayed in a neighboring city called Mestre, which is perfectly connected to Venice. So on Wednesday, November 6, my task was to take a one-meter-by-one-meter package by public transport to its destination. I must say that, although Italian is similar to Spanish, you have to pay attention to the words, and that was lacking in me. When I arrived at Piazza Roma, where you enter Venice, I took the wrong aquabus and ended up on the other side of the place where I had to go, right in the famous Piazza San Marco. What followed was a performance of a little over an hour of me carrying the work through the nooks and crannies and endless passages of Venice. Here the help of technology was vital, allowing me not only to arrive, but to persist in my endeavor until I achieved it.
On November 16th the inauguration took place. It was an event full of people and artistic proposals of all kinds, according to the magnitude and nature of the event. The truth is that I made several laps to look at the works, obtaining new information each time; the contemplation of each work is a personal matter for me, it does not matter if I am surrounded by people, it is something that draws me into its orbit, turning the experience into a dialogue between two.
I was glad to see my work and to know that it had a place among its peers. I didn't see any work that, in my opinion, didn't deserve to be there. Out of more than 10,000 works of art, my work was one of the selected ones. Even today, I find it hard to believe. I know that I tried hard to do it as well as possible, in every part of the production process I tried to make a qualitative difference. For two years now, that has been my policy as an artist: each project is a turning point in your career.
The exhibition was on from November 17 to December 8. In the end, they offered me to leave my work on loan for two years, so that it could be exhibited in more places; I liked that deal and, for now, it stayed in Italy.

The almost two weeks that I was in Europe were intense in many ways, I had to resolve some issues related to travel, I also went to Geneva to spend a few days before the opening; to When everything was over and I returned to Mexico, I felt emotionally very tired. In general, this year was full of changes and challenges. Almost a month after having experienced that, I am beginning to have a perspective of what I have achieved.
Eleven years ago, the Arte Laguna Prize represented my first entry into the world of professional art; today it has become a watershed that shows me that the direction I have taken for my career has been the right one for me.
